Dilute magnetic semiconductor

Dilute magnetic semiconductors (DMS) are semiconducting materials doped with transition metals in addition to conventional doping materials. For example, GaAs can be doped with the ferromagnetic Manganese to create (Ga,Mn)As.

They are currently being heavily researched by many different groups across the world as it is felt they offer great potential in spintronics devices. Although working DMS materials have been demonstrated, they have very low Curie temperatures (120 K is the highest confirmed temperature to date).
