Known for his work in computational chemistry. He is an early pioneer of molecular mechanic force field methodologies and code development. As a graduate student of Dr. Shneior Lifson of the Weizmann Institute, Arieh Warshel, along with visiting scholar Michael Levitt, developed the consistent force field (CFF) program. He first applied CFF to small organic molecules to predict their structural, thermodynamic and spectroscopic properties. His code was later rewritten by Bruce Gelin to form the basis of the modern molecular dynamics force field packages CHARMM, AMBER and Biosym.^[1]
