IWW Water Centre was founded in 1986 by a wide circle of shareholders from water suppliers, wastewater associations and the DVGW - Deutsche Vereinigung des Gas- und Wasserfachs e.V. (German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water). It is an institute affiliated with the University Duisburg-Essen.
