Institut für Korrosionsschutz Dresden GmbH
About Institut für Korrosionsschutz
The Institute for Corrosion Protection Dresden GmbH (IKS) was founded in 1991st It emerged from the former Central Office for corrosion protection (ZKS), the then-rector of the Technical University of Dresden, Professor Dr.-Ing. habil. Dr. hc mult. Kurt Schwabe, on 01.04.1965 founded. He was also the first director of the ZKS. Their targets were the intensification of corrosion research, the development of data acquisition and the immediate transfer of the research results into practice. One of the outstanding achievements of Professor Dr. Kurt Schwabe in the field of corrosion research is that he replaced the hitherto generally accepted explanation of the electrochemical passivity of metals as a result of the formation of salt layers by the now confirmed theory of chemisorbed oxygen.
