About Diatom Mineração
The founder of the Gaetano Bonifacio Group started producing Sodium Silicate in 1956 in Argentina, the first 300 tons were supplied by William Chemicals.
Later on, two new units were installed in Uruguay and Brazil, COPASIL (Companhia Paulista de Silicato) in São Paulo in 1962, which was acquired by the I.C.I in 1974.
In 1972, our first partner, the Fazenda Retiro do Cambaú, was established. Its main goal is to reforest, industrialize wood, vegetable resins and fine chemistry.
In 1981, the Resibrás Indústria e Comércio de Produtos Químicos Ltda was created to produce Sodium Silicate and its derivatives. It has increased its productive capacity throughout the years.
In 1987, the company Bonifacio Transporte e Logística, today Diatom Logística, whose main goal is to work together with the Group to provide customers in common with a differentiation in added services to the products we manufacture. The success and repercussion of the Diatom & Bonifacio partnership was such that it holds a relevant position among the group, with prioritary investments in the area.
In 1990, Resibrás acquired Diatom Mineração Ltda, and incorporated Diatomita to its line of products. The objective of the Diatom acquisition was to increase its manufacturing capacity, located in an area of 279.000 square meters in the Taboão neighborhood in the city of Mogi das Cruzes.
In March of 2000, Diatom started producing precipitated silicic and sodium aluminated silicic, oriented for the rubber, shoe, chemical, micronutrients, agriculture, animal and ink industries.
In 2002, Diatom initiated its activities in the largest city of the world, Mexico City.
In 2003, the Rio de Janeiro subsidiary was established, turning Diatom into the largest Silicate manufacturer in Latin America.
